MAN CAUGHT STEALING SHOES AND SELLING THEM ON MARKETPLACE

On February 24, 2023, Crossville city police officers were dispatched to Dunham’s in reference to a theft report. When officers arrived they were informed a male subject came into the store on two different days and stole three pairs of shoes. Video surveillance showed the male cutting off security tags and passing all points of sale without paying.

An employee had noticed the same shoes were listed on Facebook Marketplace. She stated they stuck out because they were a new design and had just been put on the shelves. They also were the same size as the ones that were recently stolen. A man going by the name of Eddie Kurby had them listed as $40. When the employee noticed the profile picture, it matched the man who had stolen the shoes.

Investigators discovered the man was going by a fake name and profile. He was identified as 41-year-old Leonard Edward Kirby.

When making contact with Mr. Kirby, two of the three pairs of shoes were returned. However, the third pair had been sold to someone else.

The three pairs of shoes were each valued at $59.95.

There are no warrants signed on Mr. Kirby as of yet.
