MAN CHARGED WITH DUI AFTER ALMOST HITTING INVESTIGATOR WITH CAR

On Wednesday around 6:30 PM a Crossville officer was dispatched to the area of Highway 70 East for an intoxicated male entering his vehicle. Before the officer arrived, he was notified the man had struck a pole. When the officer arrived, he observed the male pulling out of the parking lot almost striking a Cumberland County investigator in his unmarked government vehicle. The driver, Kevin Moore, went out of the roadway to the right side of the road after almost striking the Investigator. The officer was starting to check the vehicle registration when the vehicle ran off the right side of the roadway nearly striking a building. Mr. Moore swerved back towards his travel lane and the officer initiated his emergency equipment. Mr. Moore then struck a curb and came to rest in the intersection of Main Street and Highway 70 East. He opened his door falling from his vehicle stating that he “drank too much” while lying on his back. Due to his level of intoxication, no field sobriety tests were given. He did have the strong odor of alcohol coming from his person. While being taken into custody a pair of brass knuckles were found in one of Mr. Moore’s pockets.

Once at intake the officer applied for and was granted a search warrant for Mr. Moore’s blood to determine his blood alcohol. City Fire responded to the jail to draw the blood due to Mr. Moore’s extreme level of intoxication and agitated state once at the jail.

Kevin Moore was charged with:

  • driving under the influence
  • reckless endangerment
  • carrying a prohibited weapon

The blood and brass knuckles were placed in evidence.
