MAN CHARGED WITH DUI AFTER FOUND ASLEEP IN PARKING LOT

On Saturday night, Cumberland County deputies were dispatched for a report of a Chevy pickup truck sitting in the middle of the parking lot off Westel Road. The caller stated a man got out of the truck and fell over.

When deputies arrived, they observed the truck in the parking lot and a man asleep in the driver’s seat holding food in his hands. The key was in the ignition and the deputy reportedly knocked on the window multiple times to get the man to wake up. When the man opened the door, the officer smelled a strong odor of alcohol. The man was identified as 42-year-old Daniel Steinmetz, of Rockwood.

The deputy noted Mr. Steinmetz did not make much sense when speaking and was very unsteady on his feet. He allegedly admitted to the deputies that he had been drinking. Due to his level of intoxication, a Field Sobriety Test was not given.

He was transported to an EMS station, and after being stuck multiple times, a blood draw was unsuccessful. He was transported back to the Justice Center for a Breath Intoxication Evidential Test which he refused.

Donald Steinmetz was charged with Implied Consent and Driving Under the Influence.
