MAN HIGH ON COCAINE ARRESTED AFTER RECKLESS DRIVING

On Thursday last week, while patrolling on Peavine Road, Sergeant Jason Powers with the Cumberland County Sheriff’s Office was flagged down by a motorist at the Peavine Road westbound on-ramp who said that she had followed a silver Cadillac from Highway 70E that was all over the roadway and was “going to kill someone.”
The Cadillac had turned into the Taco Bell on Peavine, and Sergeant Powers observed the Cadillac coming from the drive-thru of the business and turning right onto Peavine Road toward Highway 70E.
Once Powers caught up to the vehicle, it immediately turned right into the closed business of the Truss Shop.
After using emergency lights, Powers saw the vehicle continue to drive slowly through the parking lot, running over a 4×4 timber and nearly striking a work truck belonging to the business. Deputy Alderman arrived on the scene and got the vehicle to stop.
The driver wouldn’t follow commands to show his hands and kept reaching down beside his right leg.
After opening the driver’s door and removing the driver from the vehicle, the driver, Brandon Aaron Vance, was placed in double-locked restraints behind his back.
Vance was grinding his teeth and had extremely red eyes, and a large amount of a white powdery substance was found in the
driver’s floorboard. Vance also had the same white powder on his hands and steering wheel. The floor mat was taken from the vehicle and placed into a large evidence bag. Another piece of the plastic bag that still contained a small amount of the same white powdery substance was found in the rear passenger floorboard.
Sgt. Massey would be asked to assist with a DRE evaluation, taking Vance to Cumberland County Sheriff’s Office Intake. The white powdery substance from the floor mat was weighed at 3 grams, double bagged in plastic evidence bags, and placed in a locker with a TBI lab request.
Sgt. Massey determined Vance was under the influence of stimulants, and a search warrant was granted for a sample of his blood. A check of Mr. Vance’s driver’s license came back as Suspended. Vance would be charged with DUI, Driving on Suspended, Simple Possession of Sch2
cocaine, and Tampering with Evidence.
