MAN RESCUED IN CATOOSA WILDLIFE AREA OF CUMBERLAND COUNTY

A man who went missing in a treacherous area of Cumberland County last night was found just before noon today. Michael Payne, age 56, of Hawkins County, was located two miles downstream from the Antioch Bridge in Catoosa Wildlife Management Area. Payne parked his vehicle near the bridge yesterday afternoon and went paddling down Daddy’s Creek to an area known as the Devil’s Breakfast Table. When he did not return home last night, family members notified authorities. Authorities say this is the third rescue in this area of the canyon this summer. Water levels are currently far too low for rafting or kayaking in this spot.
