MAN TASERED DURING BUC-EE’S SHOPLIFTING INVESTIGATION TO APPEAR IN CUMBERLAND COUNTY COURT ON MONDAY
On Monday, June 22, 2026, Zackery J. Sheer is scheduled to appear in the Cumberland County General Sessions Court on multiple criminal charges stemming from an incident on May 16, 2026. According to court records, Officer Dustin Lester of the Crossville Police Department filed three separate charges against Sheer on May 20, 2026, including criminal impersonation, evading arrest, and resisting arrest without a weapon.
The charges originated when Officer Lester responded to a reported shoplifting incident in the area of the Travel Plaza and Buc-ee’s, where he questioned Sheer as a passenger in a vehicle. Sheer initially provided a false name, “Jake Yoder,” but eventually disclosed his true identity. When Officer Lester attempted to place him under arrest for the deception, Sheer pulled away and fled on foot. Following a short pursuit, Officer Lester deployed a taser, which immobilized Sheer and caused him to fall to the concrete.
Although Sheer continued to resist as officers secured his arms, he was ultimately handcuffed and placed in a patrol car. After being evaluated at the scene by EMS for minor road rash and declining further treatment, Sheer was transported to the Justice Center for booking.
