MAN THREATENS TO ASSAULT UNCLE AT CUMBERLAND MEDICAL CENTER

On April 25, 2026, city police units responded to Cumberland Medical Center after hospital staff received a phone call from a male who made threats to assault his uncle at the facility. Security reported that the male had also threatened his uncle with a firearm earlier that day. The uncle described the male as a convicted felon who owned several firearms.

The employee who took the call stated that the male claimed to be the power of attorney for his father (a patient in the ER) and said he was coming to pick him up. She reported that he became agitated, yelled, and cursed when she could not provide patient information due to confidentiality rules.

When the male later arrived at the hospital, he admitted to officers that he had threatened to physically assault his uncle but denied making any firearm-related threats or threatening the employee. A consent search of his person revealed only a pocket knife. After officers, including Lt. South and Lt. Qualls, spoke with him and calmed the situation, he was instructed to leave the premises and not return unless seeking medical treatment. He was initially resistant and made comments about his past willingness to use violence, including against an officer, but eventually left the scene. He indicated he planned to return the next day despite being banned.
