MANHUNT ENDS IN ARREST: FELON CAPTURED AFTER CARJACKING, POLICE CHASE, AND HOURS-LONG SEARCH

A nearly seven-hour manhunt came to an end Wednesday evening when law enforcement captured 44-year-old Deountray Dickey, a wanted felon who led officers on a high-stakes pursuit involving a carjacking, an armed kidnapping, and a crash.

The Cleveland Police Department arrested Dickey at 7:56 p.m. on July 15 with assistance from the Tennessee Highway Patrol, the Bradley County Sheriff’s Office, and the U.S. Marshals Office.

According to police affidavits, the incident began Wednesday morning during a narcotics investigation on Bow Street. Officers initially conducted a traffic stop on a driver leaving the location, who revealed she was delivering food to Dickey. She warned officers that Dickey was hiding from law enforcement due to active warrants and had previously threatened to shoot at police or commit suicide.

As backup arrived at the scene, Dickey fled the residence and forced his way into the backseat of a nearby vehicle, effectively kidnapping the couple inside at gunpoint. He ordered them to drive toward the Villa Apartments near Cleveland High School.

When police attempted to box the vehicle in on Blythe Ferry Road, Dickey instructed the victims to ram the police cruiser. Instead, the couple managed to flee the vehicle. Dickey then took the wheel, escaped by driving through a front yard, and led police on a pursuit down Ocoee Crossing and Keith Street.

The chase ended near the intersection of Mouse Creek Road and Paul Huff Parkway, where Dickey crashed the vehicle. He abandoned the car behind a Buddy’s BBQ and fled into the surrounding woods, prompting an extensive multi-agency search that lasted several hours.

Inside the abandoned vehicle, investigators recovered Dickey’s work identification alongside a stash of suspected narcotics, including:

  • 6 grams of suspected fentanyl

  • 1.2 grams of suspected methamphetamine

  • 3.3 grams of suspected marijuana

  • Assorted unidentified pills

Dickey was already wanted on outstanding warrants for domestic assault, weapon offenses, and probation violations. Following Wednesday’s spree, he now faces a battery of new charges, including aggravated kidnapping, evading arrest, reckless driving, leaving the scene of an accident, and multiple charges for the manufacture, sale, or delivery of controlled substances.
