MARYVILLE POLICE OFFICER KILLED AFTER RESPONDING TO DOMESTIC INCIDENT
A suspect is in custody in connection with the shooting of a Maryville Police Department officer who was a member of the 5th Judicial District Drug Task Force Thursday.
According to Blount County Sheriffs Office Public Information Officer Marian O’Briant, the officer, who has not yet been identified, was responding to the a domestic situation at 625 Alcoa Trail, Maryville, at the time of the shooting. The injured officer was transported to University of Tennessee Medical Center; where he later died.
Maryville Police Department, Alcoa Police Department and Blount County Sheriff’s Office are on the scene. BCSO requested assistance from Loudon County Sheriff’s Office. Sheriff Tim Guider didn’t know how many deputies were sent over. “Obviously we’ll do everything we can to help them in this critical time,” Guider told reporters. “They were very good to us when we lost an officer (Jason Scott) and just a very good neighbor.”
