MECHANICAL ISSUE NECESSITATES EMERGENCY LANDING AT McGHEE TYSON AIRPORT
A Delta Airlines Boeing 737 headed to Atlanta had to make an emergency landing Sunday morning at McGhee Tyson Airport after crew reported a nose-gear issue.
A Federal Aviation Administration spokesman said the crew deemed the issue an emergency prior to the landing.
Flight 1417 departed Tri-Cities Airport, bound for Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport with 129 passengers aboard.
In a statement, Delta Airlines apologized, attributing the diversion and emergency landing to “an abundance of caution following a potential mechanical issue.”
The jet is being inspected by maintenance technicians to resolve the issue. Passengers were “being re-accommodated on an alternate aircraft” to continue on to their destination.
The FAA is investigating the incident.
