Authorities with Cumberland County and the City of Crossville say they expect Old Jamestown Highway to be shut down for several days as crews assess damage and conduct emergency repairs.

A culvert in the vicinity of Hillcrest Drive collapsed during Saturday night’s rains and subsequent flooding.

Crossville City Manager Greg Wood spoke with 1057 News this morning. “The break is on the city-county line,” he said. “The culvert that failed is in the county.”

Wood said the city and county will work together to make the repairs in as timely a manner as possible. But, he cautioned, he couldn’t give a specific timeline for those repairs, as it will take time to evaluate the situation, then divert the water and stabilize the culvert.

Wood said he would keep folks posted on the city’s Facebook page.

Crossville Public Works Department Street Superintendent Kevin Music told 1057 News his crews are beginning to evaluate the situation and devising plans for the repairs. He said they don’t yet know how extensive the repairs will have to be – that won’t be known until crews have an opportunity to assess the extent of the damage and get some of the debris and mud cleared away. “We’re going to try to save the existing culvert, pour concrete around to try to save them,”  Music said. “It all hinges on today and tomorrow as we start to come up with a game plan.”
