Missing North Carolina woman’s remains found in Monroe County

Authorities have confirmed that a missing North Carolina woman was found dead in Monroe County. The North Carolina Center for Missing Persons issued a Silver Alert back in August for Eunice Zona Gass.  The Monroe County Sheriff’s Office said the 81-year-old’s vehicle was located Saturday evening in the Cherokee National Forest.

Local, state, and federal officials searched the area on Sunday and Monday and found human remains.  The remains were sent to the Knox County Regional Forensic Center and they confirmed through dental records that the remains were those of Eunice Gass.

Investigators do not suspect foul play.
