Cumberland County deputies charged 52-year-old Willis Lee Melton of Monterey with evading arrest for engaging them in a foot pursuit through the woods behind his Dripping Springs Road home early Wednesday. They’d been sent to serve warrants when Melton leapt from a back window of the home and fled. When they caught up with Melton, he was taken into custody without further incident and charged with evading arrest, along with the outstanding warrant for felony aggravated assault.

Melton was initially placed under $7,500 bond and is due to appear in court December 10.
