MOTORCYCLE RIDER INJURED IN CRASH SOUTH OF ROCKWOOD AFTER HELICOPTER BLOCKED BY HIGH WINDS
An 18-year-old motorcycle rider was hospitalized following a collision with a passenger vehicle Friday evening on Abel’s Valley Road, just south of Rockwood.
Emergency crews arrived at the scene around 8:00 p.m. following reports of the crash. A LifeStar Air Ambulance was initially requested to airlift the injured rider, but high winds prevented the helicopter from landing at the designated Rockwood Sports Complex landing zone.
Instead, the rider was transported via ground ambulance to a hospital in Knoxville.
Authorities have not yet released official details regarding the cause of the collision or the current condition of the rider. An official report from the Tennessee Highway Patrol (THP) is still pending.
