A motorist was fortunate to escape injury after his vehicle was hit by a tractor-trailer in western Cumberland County yesterday.

The Tennessee Highway Patrol says a 2012 Toyota Prius driven by 85-year-old Ronald C. Riggs was turning off Main Street in Pleasant Hill to go east on Highway 70.

Riggs turned into the path of an oncoming 2016 Freightliner operated by 44-year-old Jude R. Pennington.

The impact sent the Prius off the road and into a yard.

Riggs was issued a citation for failure to yield.
