MULTI-COUNTY VEHICLE PURSUIT ENDS IN CUMBERLAND COUNTY
Cumberland County deputies responded late last week to help intercept a driver involved in a multi-county pursuit.
The arrest report released today states the chase with the suspect, 35-year-old Ryan Francis Whyte of Lake Worth, Florida, started in Meigs County. The pursuit went into Roane County and onto Interstate 40 westbound.
Cumberland County deputies set up at the Crab Orchard exit and observed Whyte traveling at a high rate of speed in a Nissan. Whyte got off at the Crab Orchard exit and ran by the stop sign at the end of the exit ramp.
Whyte got back on the interstate heading towards Crossville, but officers were ready. Stop sticks were deployed at the 327-mile marker, and the Nissan ran over them. Whyte continued westbound and was nearly struck by two tractor-trailer drivers. Another stop stick was deployed at the 324-mile marker, which Whyte ran over them. Whyte continued to drive for a short time on four flat tires until he was stopped by deputies.
Whyte was arrested for reckless endangerment, evading arrest, and driving without a license.
