SUSPECT DRIVES VEHICLE INTO POND AFTER CUMBERLAND COUNTY BURGLARY

Cumberland County deputies recently responded to a Tennessee Valley Authority substation on the 5800th block of Plateau Road for a burglary in progress.

Upon arrival, officers saw a coded door pried open.

The arrest report indicates officers saw the suspect, 38-year-old Dane Newman Carr of Cookeville, run from the building and get in a Chevy Tahoe.

A vehicle pursuit started heading down Plateau Road onto Carey Road. The Chevy left the road and went into a field. The chase ended when Carr drove into a small pond.

Carr exited the vehicle and swam to the bank of the pond.

Carr reportedly attempted to pull away from deputies, resulting in him being stunned.

The vehicle was pulled out of the pond. Officers reportedly located multiple pry tools and bolt cutters in the automobile. A partial roll of copper ground wire, valued at $2500, was found beside the cut fence.

Carr was arrested for burglary, theft of property, vandalism, possession of burglary tools, evading arrest, and resisting arrest.
