UPDATED: EASTBOUND I-40 CRASH AT CRAB ORCHARD RESULTS IN 2 FATALITIES

UPDATED:

A multi-vehicle accident on Interstate 40 in Cumberland County this morning has eastbound lanes closed between the Crab Orchard exit (Exit 329) and Westel Road Exit (Exit 338). Westbound traffic is not affected by this serious crash that took place at the 336 mile marker. The accident took place just before 6 a.m. this morning. Sources tell 1057 News that the crash involved a tractor-trailer rig and a passenger car. The wreck resulted in two fatalities. No names have been released at this time. The driver of the semi-truck was said to be alright. 

According to the Tennessee Highway Patrol at 9:05 a.m. central time, the new estimated time of clearing is between 10 a.m. and 12 Noon Central. Crews are presently working now to get one lane opened eastbound. In the meantime, eastbound motorists will be detoured at the Crab Orchard exit to get on Highway 70. Then they can proceed east to Westel Road, turning left and head back toward I-40 to continue their journey.
