MULTIPLE TRACTOR-TRAILER ACCIDENT SNARLS TRAFFIC ON I-40 IN CUMBERLAND CO
A multi-vehicle accident on I-40 in Cumberland County at the 323 mile marker eastbound late yesterday afternoon resulted in a traffic backup for a few hours. The crash report states a 2022 Volvo tractor-trailer driven by 52-year-old Timothy McGillen of Monroe, North Carolina, a 2018 Freightliner tractor-trailer operated by 53-year-old Paul Graves of Monterey, a 2007 Volvo tractor-trailer controlled by 49-year-old Aleksandr Garbuzov of Niles, Illinois and a 2017 Dodge pickup truck pulling a horse trailer driven by 63-year-old Carl King of Strafford, Missouri were all traveling eastbound. Graves, Garbuzov and King stopped because of heavy traffic and McGillen struck Graves in the rear. McGillen then went into the shoulder and sideswiped Garbuzov, re-entered the right lane and hit King. All four drivers were restrained. McGillen was the only injury and he was charged with failure to exercise due care. The county fire department says the horse in the trailer was not hurt.
