NASHVILLE MURDER SUSPECT CAPTURED DURING TRAFFIC STOP IN NEW JERSEY

NASHVILLE, Tenn.–A 19-year-old New Jersey man arrested during a traffic stop turned out to also be wanted in Nashville for the 2015 murder of Nashville resident Olympia Hobbs.

Last Tuesday, Jackson Police in New Jersey conducted a traffic stop of a vehicle driving 50 mph in a 30 mph school zone. Police conducted a search of the vehicle and found a large folding knife with a brass knuckle handle under the driver’s seat and placed the driver and passenger, Javier Rivas under arrest.

Police say Rivas gave officers two different names and it wasn’t until they fingerprinted Rivas and ran his prints through the Automated Fingerprint Identification System that they were able to find out his true identity. Rivas had an address in Lakewood, New Jersey and it was found he had a warrant for first degree murder in Nashville.

Rivas was indicted for the murder of 33-year-old Olympia Hobbs at her residence last year. 20-year-old Paige Elliot was also charged with criminal homicide in Hobss fatal shooting at her Hopewood Court home. It is believed she was killed by Elliot and Rivas during an attempted robbery. Metro Police say Elliot implicated herself during an interview and believed she had not acted alone.

Rivas is expected to be transferred back to Nashville to face murder charges.
