NATIONAL FIRE PREVENTION WEEK RAISING AWARENESS TO HOME FIRE ESCAPE PLANNING

The Tennessee Department of Commerce and Insurance is raising awareness of the importance of home fire escape planning and drills during National Fire Prevention Week (October 6-12, 2019). This year’s theme is “Not Every Hero Wears a Cape. Plan and Practice Your Escape!” which works to educate everyone about the small but important actions they can take to keep themselves and those around them safe.

Sponsored by the National Fire Protection Agency since 1922, National Fire Prevention Week is observed each year during the week of October 9th to commemorate the Great Chicago Fire, which began on October 8, 1871, and caused devastation and fatalities. Fire departments and fire safety organizations use National Fire Prevention Week as a way to highlight fire safety in cities and communities across the nation.
