NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE: FINAL REVIEW OF STORM DAMAGE UNDERWAY

The National Weather Service issued another report today regarding the damage caused early Sunday morning from either a tornado or straight line winds.

In White County, a small EF-0 tornado touched down near Sparta Golf and Country Club on Baker Mountain Road. Most of the damage was to large trees and broken trees limbs. The tornado continued northeast crossing Highway 70 knocking trees down. Additional damage occurred to the Bon Air community where several farm outbuildings and barns were destroyed near Corolla Road. A few homes had roof damage as well. Sporadic tree damage continued along Highway 70 where the tornado lifted off the ground right before reaching the DeRossett community.

Preliminary reports indicate straight line winds of around 95 miles per hour caused damage in several areas of Cumberland County and in Crossville. The winds snapped over 50 power poles and knocked thousands out of power. The additional report released today indicates it is subject to change pending final review of the event. This comes as several individuals reported seeing a tornado when lightning brightened the sky early that morning. Others heard a distinctive roar associated with the sound a tornado makes while on the ground.
