NEARLY A DOZEN ROAD PROJECTS ONGOING IN CUMBERLAND COUNTY

It seems like everywhere we go in Cumberland County today, a road construction project can be expected.
The Tennessee Department of Transportation says there are nearly a dozen road projects currently taking place in the county.
Here is a look at these projects:
I-40 resurfacing from east of mile marker 328 (near Crab Orchard) to mile marker 333 (Ozone bridges) – This resurfacing project is being performed from 7 p.m. until 6 a.m. Sunday night through Friday morning. One lane will be closed during this time.
Highway 127 from north of I-40 to near Potato Farm Road – (bridge construction and paving) – Temporary lane closures will take place. Flaggers and advanced warning signs will accompany any lane closures. Paving at the intersections of North Tabor Loop, South Tabor Loop, and Whittenburg Road intersections are scheduled with flagging operations.
Peavine Road at Highway 70 construction of a roundabout – Traffic will be directed to the roundabout while the contractor works on the concrete islands around the roundabout. Motorists entering the roundabout should yield to vehicles within the roundabout.\
Highway 70 West (Sparta Highway) in Crossville (bridge construction) – The contractor has begun replacement activities over the Obed River bridge. Sparta Highway is closed at the bridge for the duration of the project until the work is completed. A detour has been displayed to utilize Northside Drive to travel around the closure. Additionally, the left turn from Sparta Drive onto Miller Avenue has been closed for the project’s duration. The bridge is expected to be finished no later than October 2024.
Highway 127 South at Highway 68 Homestead – Grading activities are in progress. Traffic has been shifted to a temporary traffic pattern while construction is ongoing. Construction equipment and vehicles will be entering and exiting the work zone frequently. Motorists should use caution when traveling through the area and be aware of the traffic pattern shifts.
Road resurfacing of Genesis Road from Main Street to Jackie Drive (just north of Pilot gas station in Crossville – Temporary lane closures and road closures will be necessary to perform this work. Typical work schedules are nightly from Sunday night at 7 p.m. until Friday morning at 6 a.m. The contractor is temporarily working during the day from 9 a.m. until 3 p.m. with lanes closures. Motorists should use caution while traveling through the work zone.
Miller Bypass from Highway 127 to near Old Mail Road – Temporary lane closures will be necessary to perform this work. This work will occur from 9 a.m. until 3 p.m. Monday through Friday.
Interstate Drive from North Main Street to Genesis Road in Crossville – There will be temporary lane closures and short term closures in this area. Flagging operations will accompany these closures with appropriate signs. The contractor has shifted traffic to a temporary lane shift along Interstate Drive near Cottonpatch Drive.
Highway 127 North widening from near N. Lowe Road (Rinnie area) to north of Highway 62 (Clarkrange) – The contractor will continue work along the new alignment of Highway 127. In addition, the contractor will be performing utility work adjacent to the existing alignment of the highway. Flaggers are being intermittently used to control traffic through parts of the work zone.
ONE DAY EVENT ROAD PROJECTS
I-40 mile marker 326.7 bridge inspections – Crews will be inspecting the bridge over Daddy’s Creek on Wednesday, October 25, 2023 from 9 a.m. until 3 p.m. One lane will be closed with traffic control in place.
I-40 mile marker 338.8 bridge inspections – Crews will be inspecting the bridge over Piney Creek on Thursday, October 26, 2023 from 9 a.m. until 3 p.m. One lane will be closed with traffic control in place.
TDOT says other small road projects could be done in Cumberland County.
Crews are trying to get as much done before winter temperatures set in.
Motorists are asked to use caution in any of these areas and watch out for road crews present.
