NO “BOOMSDAY” THIS PAST LABOR DAY
The skies over Knoxville were quiet for the first time in 29 years this past Labor Day. Last year was the final Boomsday celebration. City leaders said that the summer-ending event was getting too expensive to run and that the city could not bear the burden itself any longer. They claimed the cost for the spectacle was nearly $250,000 and further stated that sponsors no longer wanted to take part. Other attempts at trying to raise money for Boomsday to continue failed.
