NORFOLK SOUTHERN RR CLAIMS TO OWN PORTION OF LAND UNDER ART CIRCLE LIBRARY
Both Cumberland County and Crossville Officials are questioning that a portion of land that the county’s library sits on could be owned by the Norfolk Southern Railroad. County Mayor Kenneth Carey Jr. was informed that railroad officials are willing to lease the property to the county. The county Building and Grounds Committee has suggested just buying the land outright for $40,000. During Tuesday night’s Crossville City Council meeting, City Attorney William Ridley stated that the railroad is also saying that a parcel of land that runs behind the ampitheatre that has been thought to be owned by the city is also owned by the railroad. Mayor Pro-Tem JH Graham said that he believed that the right-of-ways on that property was deeded over from the railroad and made free and clear several years ago. He called for Ridley to make a full title investigation of the matter.
