OLIVER SPRINGS CITY COUNCIL MEETING HIGHLIGHTS

Last Thursday, the Oliver Springs Town Council, also serving as water board members, met at City Hall. Although the agenda lacked old or new business for the council to discuss, several topics arose. The Christmas parade was rescheduled to December 20th, with lineup at 5:00 PM at Arrowhead Park and the parade starting at 6:00 PM, reverting from the previously planned December 6th due to conflicting regional parades. On December 6th, a tree-lighting ceremony and festivities will take place downtown at 5:30 PM. Mayor Jason Stiltner announced that CSX Railroad will resume work on the Tri-County Boulevard track, with coal trains expected to operate again after seven years of inactivity. City Manager Corey Jenkins reported that Norfolk Southern, which operates the main downtown railroad, will install crossing gates at all downtown crossings and some outside areas, following a five-year-old agreement to close certain crossings and install gates. Additionally, the council, alongside DAV, American Legion, and VFW members, will collaborate on a toy drive for children, accepting new toys valued at $10–$15 at City Hall for distribution around December 6th. The water board approved a contract under a community development block grant program to replace older water lines, improving water flow for residents.
