Family, friends, and city leaders gathered Monday morning at Redbud Park for a special ceremony officially renaming the neighborhood green space as James L. Brummett Park.

The renaming follows a resolution passed by the Oliver Springs Board of Mayor and Aldermen last month to honor the late former Alderman and Roane County Commissioner. Brummett, a longtime local businessman, originally envisioned creating a park in the ward he represented and worked tirelessly throughout his tenure to secure funding and improvements for the space.

Mayor Jason Stiltner, members of the board, and local residents attended Monday’s dedication. During the ceremony, Brummett’s family expressed gratitude for the tribute, noting that his daughter, Becky DeVaney, currently carries on his legacy after being appointed to fill his former seat on the board.

The newly named park will continue to serve as a community gathering place, standing as a permanent tribute to Brummett’s years of dedicated public service.
