OLIVER SPRINGS TOWN COUNCIL TO MEET TONIGHT
This Thursday evening, February 5, 2026, the Oliver Springs Town Council will meet at 7:00 p.m. at City Hall. Prior to the regular council meeting, the council will convene as members of the Water Board at 6:30 p.m.
The regular Town Council agenda includes two items of new business. First, the council will consider hiring a collection agency to help recover past-due debts. According to the city manager, these unpaid utility bills exceed approximately $300,000, with many accounts dating back to 2020. During the height of the COVID-19 pandemic, customers were not required to pay utility bills at the time, resulting in numerous accounts remaining unpaid for years. Second, the council will discuss possibly revising the distance requirements for beer and alcohol sales in relation to local churches, schools, and similar institutions.
The Water Board, meeting at 6:30 p.m., has several items of new business on its agenda. These include an ordinance authorizing the Oliver Springs Water Board to use a collection agency for the recovery of unpaid and past-due utility accounts, which encompass water, sewer, garbage collection, late penalties, and any other associated fees. Additional items are a resolution authorizing the submission of an application for the 2026 Community Development Block Grant program; discussion and possible approval of customer water leak insurance bids; and discussion of the recommendation to award the 2026 ARC (Appalachian Regional Commission) water line improvement project.
Both the Water Board meeting at 6:30 p.m. and the Town Council meeting at 7:00 p.m. will take place at City Hall. Residents and utility customers are always welcome to attend and address the board or council with any concerns or issues they may have.
