The Cumberland County Sheriff’s Department released more information minutes ago on a shooting yesterday.

At approximately 4:48 a.m. yesterday, deputies were dispatched to a residence on Colby Circle in the Rinnie Community regarding a domestic related call where an individual was ramming a vehicle at the residence. Deputies arrived on the scene and were flagged down by an individual in a vehicle requesting assistance who had an apparent gunshot wound. Another individual was discovered in the front yard of the residence suffering from a gunshot wound to the head.

Both gunshot victims, 41-year-old Jude Pennington of Ryan Road in Crossville, and 39-year-old Travis Sinard of Hood Drive, Crossville, were both airlifted to regional trauma centers.

Jude Pennington was treated and released for gunshot wounds. Travis Sinard was pronounced dead at 1:28 a.m. this morning at an intensive care unit. His body remains on life support pending organ donor procedures.

Cumberland County Sheriff’s Investigators are currently working with the Tennessee Bureau of Investigation and the District Attorney’s Office on the investigation. The investigation is ongoing at this time.

Deputies requested mutual aid assistance from the Crossville Police Department with multiple units arriving on the scene to determine if there were additional victims. Sheriff’s deputies were also assisted by Cumberland County Emergency Medical Services, Cumberland County Fire Department, and Crossville Fire Department.

105.7 News obtained the incident report of the fatal shooting from the Cumberland County Sheriff’s Department this morning. It is as follows:

Deputies were dispatched to a disturbance at 472 Colby Circle. The caller, Cynthia Pennington, stated her ex-husband, Jude Pennington, was outside and ramming her vehicle with his white Dodge truck.

As the deputy turned onto Colby Circle, he observed a white Dodge truck traveling towards him. As the deputy neared the truck, the driver (Pennington) waved him down. Pennington and the deputy stopped. The deputy walked up to Pennington who told the officer “he had been shot and he was going to bleed to death.” Pennington sustained gunshot wounds to the right shoulder, hand and upper thigh. The deputy observed a significant amount of blood on Pennington’s shirt and arm, as well as a gun in the passenger seat. The deputy immediately called for medical assistance. The officer then applied a tourniquet to Pennington’s upper right arm.

Pennington reportedly told the deputy that Travis Sinard shot him and he returned fire. The officer asked Pennington where Sinard was. Pennington reportedly said he had a pistol and was lying in a ditch at his ex’s house. According to the report, Pennington then told the deputy “by God I shot him and I hope the bastard dies.”

The deputy then responded to the scene of the shooting while another officer stayed with Pennington. The deputy saw Sinard’s body on the ground with Cynthia Pennington sitting next to him. As he approached, the officer noticed a large amount of blood on Sinard and the female. The report states Sinard suffered a gunshot wound to the right side of his head. The deputy also noticed a black semi-automatic pistol on the ground about three feet from where Sinard’s body was. Cynthia told the officer she was not hurt.

The report states Pennington told officers that was the second time he came to the residence that night. When Pennington returned, he allegedly saw Sinard hiding outside near a truck armed with a pistol. When Pennington went back to his truck to get his gun, Pennington stated that is when Sinard shot him. Pennington returned fire striking Sinard. Officers observed several spent shell casings in the driveway to the residence.

Both Sinard and Pennington were taken by ambulance to a nearby landing zone to be flown to area trauma units.

Pennington was treated and later released from the hospital. Sinard passed away around 1:30 a.m. this morning.
