ONE FATALITY CONFIRMED IN PEAVINE ROAD CRASH SATURDAY MORNING

One person was killed and two others injured in a two-car crash Saturday morning on Peavine Road, according to the Tennessee Highway Patrol.

The accident report states the driver of the first vehicle, Jamie D. Richards, age 40, of Crossville, was traveling northbound in the southbound lane of Peavine Road (Highway 101) and struck the 2014 Nissan Versa sedan driven by 88-year-old George H. Huxoll of Crossville head on. Richards’ 2015 Chrysler 200 sedan came to rest on the right shoulder of the southbound travel lane and Huxoll’s vehicle ended up on the right shoulder of the northbound lane.

A passenger in Huxoll’s vehicle, 85-year-old Bessie L. Huxoll, was killed in the crash. Both drivers were injured. George and Bessie Huxoll were wearing seatbelts. Richards was not.

According to the report, criminal charges are pending against Richards, whom state troopers believe may have been impaired by drugs or alcohol. Tests will be conducted to confirm this.

The posted speed along the stretch of roadway on which the crash occurred is 45 mph. Police have not released information regarding whether speed was a factor, but they do believe use of safety restraints by Richards would not have made a difference.
