ONE KILLED IN CUMBERLAND COUNTY HO– USE FIRE TODAY

EMS and multiple fire units responded early this morning to a structure fire in eastern Cumberland County with reports of a female trapped in her bedroom.

According to Cumberland County Fire Chief Trevor Kerley, a total of around 50 firefighters and 8 fire trucks responded to the scene around the 4,000th block of Highway 70 East near Crab Orchard around 8:30 this morning. As of 2:40 p.m. today, fire crews were still on the scene but a fatality has been confirmed by the Cumberland County Fire Department. The identity has not been released yet but according to sources, the fatality is a 7-year-old female.

During the blaze, three firefighters fell through the floor but were not injured. One firefighter was treated on the scene for smoke inhalation. The home was a total loss. A cause of the fire is under investigation.
