ONE KILLED IN HEAD ON VEHICLE ACCIDENT ON HIGHWAY 70 WEST

One person lost his life in a head on vehicle accident on Highway 70 West just west of Crossville early this morning. Troopers say a 2009 VW Rabbit driven by 35-year-old David Joseph Palmer of Sparta crossed over the center line and was struck by an oncoming 2018 Freightliner tractor-trailer operated by 50-year-old Robert Merrill Pitts of Griffin, Georgia. The impact left debris scattered all over the highway. Palmer was pronounced deceased at the scene. Pitts was not hurt. The highway was closed at the site of the crash while the accident was investigated. Traffic was re-routed to Old Highway 70 for a few hours this morning.
