ONE KILLED, ONE INJURED IN MOTORCYCLE ACCIDENT

One man was killed and a woman was injured following a motorcycle accident in the Great Smoky Mountain National Park Friday (October 27, 2017). Officers say the accident took place on Newfound Gap where 71-year-old Jerome Runnion of Knoxville was heading north, crossed over the center line, struck an oncoming vehicle then a rock retaining wall. Jerome and his wife, 71-year-old Kathleen Runnion, were both ejected and fell down an embankment. Several emergency crews responded to the scene. A technical rope rescue hoisted the patients to the roadway. The occupants of the vehicle were uninjured. Jerome Runnion was pronounced dead and his wife, who was taken to UT Medical Center, was injured in the accident.
