OVER $185 MILLION IN HIGHWAY AND BRIDGE PROJECTS UNDERWAY IN CUMBERLAND COUNTY

Major infrastructure relief is officially on the way for Cumberland County drivers. State Senator Paul Bailey, in partnership with the Tennessee Department of Transportation (TDOT), has announced a massive wave of roadwork aimed at widening highways, replacing aging bridges, and delivering crucial safety upgrades across the region.

While the broader Upper Cumberland area is seeing more than $240 million in total infrastructure investments, Cumberland County is securing the lion’s share of the funding. The county currently boasts over $185 million in active construction projects.

“I’m proud to work alongside local leaders and TDOT to deliver the infrastructure investments that will keep our drivers safe on the road,” Senator Bailey said of the historic funding rollout.

Key Cumberland County Projects Now Underway:

  • US-127 Widening: Progressing through multiple phases, including work on the Northwest Connector, to ease traffic flow and accommodate growth.

  • Bridge Replacements & Repairs: Crucial structural overhauls are targeted at the Obed River Bridge (SR-24) and the Clear Creek Bridge, alongside vital SR-298 culvert replacements.

  • I-40 Upgrades: Resurfacing and essential bridge repairs are actively moving forward along the interstate corridor.

  • State Route Safety Improvements: Major resurfacing and safety modernizations are targeting both SR-28 and SR-101.

Local officials note that while drivers should anticipate temporary construction delays, the long-term payoff will mean smoother commutes and significantly safer roads for Upper Cumberland families and businesses alike.
