PART OF HIGHWAY 68 TO OPEN AS ONE LANE AT SLIDE SITE IN RHEA COUNTY MAY 12, 2018

The Tennessee Department of Transportation has announced one lane of travel will open up Saturday (May 12, 2018) on a section of Highway 68 between Grandview and Spring City. The section had collapsed from a slide caused by heavy rainfall last moth. The one lane of travel will be limited to vehicles such as cars, pickup trucks and school buses. No commercial vehicles or heavy-duty vehicles will be allowed on this section of road until the repairs are complete. The section of road will be controlled with a temporary traffic light. State road crews will be at checkpoints at each end of the affected road to ensure proper vehicles use the one lane of travel. Crews will also be at the slide area continuing their work. Motorists taking this stretch of road should use extreme caution and watch for workers.
