PATIENTS, STAFF BLINDSIDED BY SEYMOUR REHAB FACILITY’S ABRUPT CLOSURE
When Brookhaven Retreat abruptly shuttered its doors this week, it left staff and patients wondering what happened.
Jacqueline Dawes, owner of the private-pay women’s rehab facility in Seymour, Tennessee, made the announcement via email Tuesday, reportedly due to circumstances beyond their control. Staff and clients were informed they would have to vacate the premises by 5 p.m.
The Tennessee Department of Mental Health says five patients were at the treatment facility when the center’s closure was announced.
Brookhaven provided residential rehabilitation, crisis-stabilization, detox and treatment services. The state confirmed all licenses for the facility were up to date and the center has always substantially been in compliance with state regulations.
An annual state inspection of the center was completed February 25; no mention of Brookhaven’s closure was divulged at that time.
Staff revealed they were told last Friday they would not be receiving payment for the previous pay period.
