PHIL BREDESEN TO ANNOUNCE BID AT CORKER’S U.S. SENATE POST
Tennessee’s former governor may be returning to the political scene. Sources are saying the Phil Bredesen is expected to announce that he will be in the running for Bob Corker’s U.S. Senate seat Thursday. They say Bredesen, who announced his interest in the seat in October, began to make calls on contributors Wednesday. Corker has stated that he will be retiring at the end of his term next year. The 74-year-old Bredesen was the last democrat to win a statewide race in Tennessee, a largely conservative state. He became governor in 2002 and has taken a backseat to politics and public life since finishing his second term in 2011.
