PIKEVILLE POLICE ANNOUNCE PROJECT SAFE RETURN

From the Pikeville Police Department:
We are thrilled to introduce Project Safe Return, a new initiative aimed at assisting Law Enforcement Officers and search and rescue personnel in communicating with individuals with cognitive and behavioral disorders, such as dementia, Alzheimer’s, and individuals with autism spectrum disorders.
Project Safe Return is designed to equip first responders with crucial information to help identify and safely return vulnerable individuals who may wander and get lost. By compiling important details like a current photograph, medical history, behavioral tendencies, emergency contacts, communication techniques, and preferred areas individuals like to go. This information is stored in our database and is available at our officers’ fingertips. This program aims to give first responders the tools they need to help ensure the safety of at-risk individuals.
Through collaboration with caregivers, medical professionals, and communities, Project Safe Return seeks to create a network of support that prioritizes the safety and well-being of those most in need. By raising awareness, promoting education, and fostering collaboration among stakeholders, we are working towards a more inclusive and supportive environment for individuals with cognitive and behavioral disorders.
If you or someone you know has cognitive and/or behavioral disorder, such as dementia, Alzheimer’s, or autism spectrum disorders, please complete the Project Safe Return form (https://pikevilletn.com/project-safe-return-form/)and submit it to the Pikeville Police Department. This information will be kept confidential and only shared with surrounding law enforcement jurisdictions to assist in search and rescue operations.

Project Safe Return is a crucial step towards enhancing the safety and well-being of at-risk individuals in our community. Together, we can ensure that no individual is left behind in times of crisis.
