PLANS FOR THE VILLAGE INN DISCLOSED IN SPECIAL MEETING

For the first time, the public has some insight as to what the City of Crossville plans to do with the Village Inn once the purchase is finalized.  In the special called meeting Tuesday morning the Council voted again to purchase the Inn from Dr. Robert Wood for $450,000. Mayor R.J. Crawford explained the Village Inn was likely going to be demolished sometime in the future after the City takes ownership.  As a point of interest, the latest 2022 land market appraisal for the Village Inn minus the structures is $200,000.

Great emphasis was given to helping residents of the Inn find suitable living quarters over the next year before demolishing the building. The Village Inn has been the center of controversy for many years due to some residents being involved with illegal drug activity, city code violations, and other problems. However, the Inn has also served as low-income housing for several families and veterans throughout the years.  Strangely, the Council had a do-over vote to pass the resolution to purchase the Inn during their special called meeting Tuesday.

Mayor Crawford said the city attorney recommended the re-vote for clarification of the purchase agreement.  Since the vote Tuesday was a do-over vote from the first vote last week we’re not certain if this qualifies as a ‘second reading’ passage vote.  Three readings and passages are required by the city charter to finalize the purchase. There is another special called meeting on December 28th. The agenda for that meeting has not been published yet.
