POKEY HIGHWAY DRIVER CHARGED WITH DRUG POSSESSION

Overnight Friday, Cumberland County deputies paced 20-year-old Jennifer Janine Pardue of Pegram, Tennessee (located about half an hour west-southwest of Nashville), driving 45 mph on Interstate 40 eastbound near the 326 mile marker. The slow vehicle was causing a traffic backup on the highway.

A passenger stated Pardue was driving so slowly because the radiator hose leaks and they couldn’t go fast. Pardue additionally stated she’s afraid to travel too fast on the interstate. She also claimed not to know the status of her license – whether it was suspended or revoked.

A system search revealed Pardue’s license to be revoked.

While talking with Pardue, deputies noticed an odor of pot emanating from the vehicle. When asked about the smell, Pardue claimed to have smoked marijuana recently and “may have some roaches” in her cup holder. She also admitted to having a jar of marijuana in her glove box.

K-9 Niko, who was deployed for an exterior sniff of the vehicle, confirmed the presence of drugs. Deputies located the jar of marijuana in the glove box.

Pardue was charged with possession of a Schedule VI drug and driving on a revoked or suspended license. She was placed under $4,000 bond and is set to appear in court  January 14.
