POLICE SHOOTER STALANS SENTENCED IN COURT MONDAY
The man who shot and killed Maryville Police Officer Kenny Moats appeared in court for sentencing Monday. In the plea hearing, Brian Stalans received life in prison without parole plus 56 years. Officer Moats and one other officer were called off another case to attend a domestic incident between Stalans and his father at his father’s home. The officers were able to get the victim to safety, but while they were crouched behind a cruiser, Stalans opened fire from a garage. The 32-year-old Moats was struck with a bullet in the neck above his bullet-proof vest. He died from the injury. A grand jury indicted Brian Stalans in November 2016. Officer Moats leaves behind a wife and three young children.
