PRESENCE OF BLACK MOLD SPORES DISCOVERED IN HOMESTEAD ELEMENTARY CLASSROOM

The Cumberland County School System recently conducted air quality tests in several classrooms at Homestead Elementary School and the results came back yesterday (Thursday, February 6, 2020).

Of seven classrooms tested, only room 304 showed any presence of black mold spores. The school system has been advised by GEOservices, the engineering firm that conducted the testing, that spore levels in excess of 50-200 parts per cubic meter of air create the potential for health issues. The level in room 304 tested below this level.

However, the fact that any of these spores were discovered compelled the school system to conduct specialized cleaning of the classroom over the weekend of February 8, 2020. The class will meet in an alternative location at the school until retesting shows the issue has been mitigated. School officials says the health and safety of the staff and students at Homestead Elementary School is of the utmost importance. The school system has also requested an air quality check of the entire school.

Parents of Homestead students will be notified by letter regarding this issue on Monday, February 10, 2020 as soon as school is back in session.
