PROPOSED EXPO CENTER IN CROSSVILLE HITS SNAG REGARDING PRIVILEGE TAX
Crossville City Mayor James Mayberry made a motion last night at the city council meeting to send a letter of support to the county for the concept of the proposed Cumberland County Expo Center. The motion passed. However, the plan to implement a 1% restaurant privilege tax to cover bonds for the construction hit a snag. The council learned there are conditions a county must have in place to enact the tax, including having a national park. Only Sevier County currently has the restaurant privilege tax. A motion was then made to partner with the county for the Expo Center. It passed 3 to 2 with Mayor Mayberry and Councilman Scot Shanks voting no without seeing figures first.
