A proposal for an expo center was presented to the Crossville City Council last night at its work session. The 45,000 square foot indoor facility would be built near the community complex at a projected cost of $4 million, but that cost could rise with material prices increasing. A survey conducted last year indicated 81 percent of citizens in the county would support the expo center. Officials say the center, once built, would hold sporting events, corporate meetings, shows, graduations and concerts. The next step is sending a request to the state to put into place a 1% restaurant privilege tax in the county to cover bonds for the construction. The request would not be heard in Nashville until January 2019 and, if approved by the state, the tax would not go into effect until July 2019 in Cumberland County.
