RAINY WEEKEND GIVES WAY TO SUNSHINE AND COOLER NIGHTS

A wet weekend is underway across the Cumberland Plateau and Tennessee Valley. Saturday will be cloudy with periods of showers and thunderstorms, with rain chances around 60 percent in both regions. Highs will reach the upper 70s on the Cumberland Plateau and lower 80s in the Tennessee Valley. Some areas could receive a tenth to a quarter-inch of rain, with locally higher amounts possible in thunderstorms. Fog will also be possible, especially on the plateau.

Rain chances remain elevated Saturday night before another round of wet weather Sunday. The Cumberland Plateau has a 70 percent chance of showers and thunderstorms with a high near 73, while the Tennessee Valley has an 80 percent chance with a high near 76. Rain begins winding down Sunday night as cooler and drier air starts moving into the region.

A much quieter stretch begins Monday. Sunshine returns and continues through Wednesday, with afternoon highs generally in the middle to upper 70s. The biggest change will come at night, when temperatures turn noticeably cooler. Lows Monday night fall into the middle 40s on the Cumberland Plateau and around 50 in the Tennessee Valley, with similarly cool nights continuing through the middle of the week.
