REGISTERED SEX OFFENDER ARRESTED FOR FAILURE TO REPORT ADDRESS CHANGE
On February 12, 2026, Detective Lorenz received a call from Sex Offender Registry Officer Henrietta Kerley of the Cumberland County Sheriff’s Office. She reported that Charles Newberry, a registered sex offender under her supervision, was potentially in violation for failing to report a change of address as required. Officer Kerley indicated that he might be staying at the Super 8 Motel in Crossville, Tennessee.
Detective Lorenz and Detective Tollett responded to the motel, where the front desk clerk confirmed that Charles Newberry had been residing there since February 3, 2026. The clerk explained that Newberry’s son had initially rented the room, but after a disagreement, Newberry began paying for it himself. The clerk provided a printout verifying this information and stated that Newberry was in room 118.
Officers made contact with Charles Newberry in room 118. During the conversation, he admitted to having been at the motel since shortly after his birthday but provided multiple inconsistent explanations for failing to report the address change. He was taken into custody for failing to report a change of primary or secondary residence or establishing a physical presence at a new location within 48 hours as required by the Tennessee Sex Offender Registry.
Officer Farmer of the Crossville Police Department transported him to the Cumberland County Sheriff’s Office. The incident occurred in Crossville, Tennessee.
