RESIDENTS NEAR PROPOSED SHOOTING SPORTS PARK SAY “RETHINK LOCATION”

Tuesday night’s Crossville City Council work session ended on a disparaging note. Council Member Pamela Harris introduced an item in old business concerning the proposed Shooting Sports Park to be located near the old landfill property on Albert Frye Rd. The park was first brought to the council’s attention last year when County Mayor Kenneth Carey asked the council to consider donating the land. Mayor Carey stated then that the TWRA would grant $2.2 million for the construction of the park which would then be run by a non-profit organization, Shooting Park Inc. At the work session, several residents that live within a one-mile radius of the area made the council aware that they have great concerns that their “quality of life” would be disturbed by the park and cited property de-valuation and noise pollution. They said that there are other places in the county where the park could be located away from the population. Council members told the group that the contract between the city and the non-profit was approved last month, and that this was the first time that they had heard this side of the story. They told the residents that they needed to meet with the non-profit group in order for a discussion to take place between the two entities. The item was also placed on the council’s agenda for further discussion at next week’s monthly meeting.
