RETRIAL FOR FORMER BLACKWATER SECURITY GUARD SLATTEN UNDERWAY
A re-trial for former Blackwater security guard Nick Slatten of Sparta, Tennessee, is underway. Slatten was found guilty of first-degree murder in 2014 and sentenced to life in prison after a 2007 incident in Baghdad. A federal court would later overturn Slatten’s conviction. The judges said Slatten should have been tried separately and a new trial would allow him to introduce evidence that he wasn’t the first to open fire.
