RHEA COUNTY MAN AND TEENAGER CHARGED WITH NASHVILLE STORE CLERK MURDER

A Rhea County man and teenager are now considered suspects in the murder of a Nashville store clerk last night and were both charged with murder this afternoon.

Officers say 28-year-old Daniel Clark, wanted for murder and in connection to an Amber Alert, was taken into police custody in Nashville after a manhunt this morning. Clark was found in a wood line at Old Hickory Boulevard and Charlotte Pike in Nashville. Trinity Quinn, who had been missing since Tuesday and was at the center on the AMBER Alert, was with him.

Police said they were notified of Quinn’s whereabouts after a dump truck driver saw her standing on the side of the road.

He drove down to the corner to a convenience market and called the police department,” said Metro police spokesman Don Aaron.

Both Clark and Quinn, who is from Dayton, Tennessee, were taken into custody around 10: 15 a.m. without incident. Police said they are both considered homicide suspects and were taken to the police station for questioning.

Police had been searching for the two after a Nashville clerk was shot and killed Tuesday around 9:30 p.m. at an Exxon station on the corner of Charlotte Pike and Davidson Road.

Authorities said he and Quinn entered the store and the 15-year-old appeared to shop before Clark pulled out a weapon and allegedly shot John Stevens multiple times. Police called the 58-year-old’s murder a “brutal homicide.”

Police said at the time of the shooting, Quinn was standing near the store’s entrance.

It is this police department’s belief that Miss Quinn had opportunity at the market to flee. We do not see any indication that she was being held against her will,” Aaron said, adding

According to Aaron, after firing shots Clark went behind the counter and pulled out Stevens’ body and went through his pockets.

At this point in the investigation, police said it appears Clark took a set of keys before he and Quinn went into the parking lot and attempted to take a car. When the keys didn’t belong to that car, the two fled on foot after Clark shot out its windows.

A criminal homicide warrant was issued before his arrest. Police have since recovered a handgun that was in a backpack that was in Clark’s possession at the time of his arrest.
