A Roane County couple entered a plea of not guilty in court in their arraignment this morning to multiple charges of child abuse. A grand jury handed down indictments on 53-year-old Randall Joseph Ridenour and 48-year-old Michelle Lee Ridenour of Sycamore Drive in Harriman. Both face 14 counts of aggravated child abuse, 7 counts of aggravated child neglect and 5 counts of aggravated assault. Court documents state the victims, ranging in age from 6 to 14, sustained severe bruising when being whipped with a belt between 2018 and June of this year. The assault charges involved strangulation or attempted strangulation and the use or display of a deadly weapon. The judge today set a return date to court for the Ridenours for December 7, 2020.
